RATEPAYERS in Penang received some New Year cheer from the state government when it provided a 50 percent discount to those who fully settle arrears from their land assessments, quit rent and parcel rent, including the fines imposed.
The discount period is from now until May 31, this year, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said in a statement.
This initiative is to encourage defaulters to settle their arrears with the local authorities.
"This offer would be processed automatically by our land and local authorities. It can be done either at the counters of our offices or through the portal of PgLAND. They must pay in one lump sum. This is also applicable to ratepayers who have received their fine notices (Notice Denda 6A) for their land assessments."
However, the discount is not applicable to those who pay on instalments, Chow said.
He added that the offer is only for the period of this year and not for those who had settled their arrears earlier.
Ratepayers who have queries, should refer to the state revenue unit, the land and minerals office or the respective district offices, he said. – The Vibes, January 4, 2024.
