TWO individuals were injured after they were ejected mid-way through a ride at a local funfair near the Likas Sports Complex in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday night.
The police have ordered the funfair operator to cease its operations following the incident for safety inspections.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the move will allow the operator to check on the safety of all games offered at the funfair, while they probe into the alleged cause of the accident.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Criminal Procedure Code for negligent behaviour that endangers the life or safety of others.
The incident, which occurred at about 9pm, resulted in a 29-year-old female and her male compatriot sustaining head injuries.
They were reportedly riding an “octopus” ride before they were thrown off from their seats, according to news reports.
Onlookers caught the whole incident on video and the recordings instantly went viral on social media.
Netizens have since questioned the safety standards of the rides at the night-time amusement fair.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel deployed to the scene said that the victims were rushed to the hospital. The male victim was admitted to the critical zone unit.
“Firefighters, along with officers from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), reached the location within minutes.
"They administered initial medical assistance to the wounded individuals before transporting them to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for additional treatment,” said Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue station head Ordine Gilu.
