SARAWAK police have arrested a man for allegedly threatening and insulting Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and other state politicians.
The suspect, aged 46, was arrested yesterday after police suspected him of posting threats and insults on social media.
State police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the man was nabbed in Bintulu.
"He is being probed for criminal intimidation under section 507 of the Penal Code.
"There were seven police reports lodged against him and we will forward the investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chamber for further action," Mancha said in a press statement.
This is the second reported case in two months of threats and insults to Abang Johari on social media.
Abang Johari is the Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman.
On February 29, Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu called on police to act against a social media influencer for allegedly insulting Abang Johari in a video that went viral.
PBB information chief Datuk Idris Buang had called on the police to hunt down "Bozz Jebat" who had allegedly tarnished Abang Johari’s image with his comments that could cause public unrest.
Idris said "Bozz Jebat" had also insulted Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is the Bintulu MP. – April 20, 2024
