A COMPANY manager who was allegedly involved in the recent shooting at KLIA’s Terminal 1 was charged at the Kota Baru sessions court today with seven charges, including the possession of firearms.
However, the accused, Hafizul Harawi, 38, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial for all the charges read before judge Nik Habri Muhamad.
According to the first charge, he is accused of possessing an Austrian Glock 19 pistol-type firearm, (made in Turkey) which is illegal under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 14 years and a minimum six strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
For the second charge, the man is accused of possessing 33 pieces of PMC 380 Auto ammunition without a valid licence, chargeable under Section 8 (a) of the Arms Act 1960, punishable under Section 8 of the same act, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine of not more than RM10,000 or both if guilty.
The third charge is for possessing a clear plastic package containing firecrackers without a permit, chargeable under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and punishable under the same act with up to seven years imprisonment or a fine of RM10,000 or both upon conviction.
The three offenses were allegedly committed in a Honda Civic car at the KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital grounds in Kota Baru at 2pm, on April 15, 2024.
For the fourth to sixth offences, Hafizul was charged with possession of identification cards of three different individuals at the same place and date, and was charged under the National Registration Regulations 1990.
For the seventh offence, he was alleged to have used a fake registration plate on the Honda Civic at the same place and date and was charged under the Road Transport Act 1987.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad while the accused was unrepresented.
The court also allowed the accused to be remanded at the Sg Buloh Prison and set May 23 for re-mention of all cases, document submission and for the accused to appoint a lawyer. – The Vibes, April 23, 2024
