THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed that it is investigating former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki told a press conference in Gua Musang that Dr Mahathir is being probed with two of his sons, businessmen Tan Sri Mokhzani and Mirzan.

“I want to confirm that Dr Mahathir is one of the persons being investigated in this case. This follows an investigation on two of his sons.

"His two sons were earlier issued with notices to declare their assets within the period specified under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009," he said.

However, he did not reveal any further details on the investigations and said more information will be revealed when the time is right.

In January, the MACC told Mirzan to declare all movable and immovable assets that are in his possession either inside or outside the country to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Mokhzani, meanwhile, was later investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLATFPUAA) 2001. – The Vibes, April 25, 2024.
