BADRUL Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, has claimed trial to two charges of making seditious remarks and defaming Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, at the cybercrime sessions court here today.
The Bersatu activist pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before judge Siti Aminah Ghazali.
The court set bail at RM10,000 for each charge.
Yesterday, the former PKR man was detained at the Dang Wangi police headquarters over a post on a Bloomberg report of purported talks between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Berjaya founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan and Genting Group’s Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay on opening a casino at Forest City in Johor.
Anwar as well as Berjaya and Genting officials have since denied the Bloomberg report, with the prime minister calling for action to be taken against the media company over its allegation.
Bloomberg had reported that Anwar met Berjaya founder Tan and Genting Group’s Lim last week to discuss a casino licence for Forest City. The report, quoting sources “familiar with the matter”, said a casino would revive the US$100 billion property project.
In his Facebook post, Badrul insinuated that the alleged new casino was the “financial hub” that Anwar had previously announced, and he thanked Bloomberg and Singapore’s Business Times for publishing their articles on the alleged talks. – April 29, 2024.
