CONTROVERSIAL blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papagomo, was arrested by police after attending a sedition trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

His lawyer Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said that two police officers from Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit picked up his client around noon.

"After attending the second day of trial in relation to Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 (involving an allegation that the government is pro-Israel and pro-West), two police officers arrested Azri outside the court.

Rafique said Papagomo was taken to the Dang Wangi district police station.

“The arrest was on the orders of higher-ups. It is over a police report under the Sedition Act. Today's government is truly abusing its power," he said in a statement.

Rafique also said he was uncertain which alleged offence his client was being investigated for, adding that the remand hearing before a magistrate would be conducted tomorrow. – July 12, 2024.
