THE stereotyping of Malaysians along racial lines is embarrassing and is something that must be stopped, said an NGO.
The Social Protection Contributors Advisory Association Malaysia (SPCAAM) said everyone was responsible for this, even those in the government.
“Factors such as the frustration of the rural poor and how government policies have assisted them must be assessed without the influence of racial factors.
“Government policies must not favour big businesses. The impact of this is being felt by the poor and the problem is getting worse,” international labour adviser Callistus Antony D’Angelus said in a statement.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked for more time to address the issues afflicting the people and this is understandable given the malaise he inherited, D’Angelus said.
“However, the people, especially the poor, are in dire straits and their trust and patience in the government and the reform agenda will not stretch on for too long.
“The prime minister should also examine how his coalition is serving his reform agenda.
“Time is not on the side of the new government and drastic changes must be made soon and the fruits seen by the public before the next general election,” he added. – July 13, 2024
