A DRONE carrying a laundry bag containing plastic packets believed to be drugs was discovered on the rooftop of one of the blocks of the Tapah Prison in Perak.
Authorities believe it was an attempt to smuggle the suspected drugs into a prison using a drone.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that the Tapah District Police Headquarters received a tip-off from a prison warden around 5pm yesterday on the incident.
"The warden discovered the drone on the roof of a prison block during a routine patrol at 11.30am.
"Upon inspection, police found a laundry bag attached to the drone," he said.
Further checks revealed a translucent bag containing three packets of white powder believed to be heroin (122g), and two packets containing chunks of crystal believed to be methamphetamine weighing 12.9g,” he said in a statement today.
Based on initial investigations, the modus operandi used to smuggle drugs into prison using a drone is the first case ever encountered.
The case is under investigation under Section 39B and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - The Vibes, August 10, 2024
