SARAWAK police have launched a manhunt for a suspect believed to have shot dead a soldier who was on ground training exercises in the jungles of the Song district in central Sarawak.
State police chief Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata told reporters that the suspect could be a hunter who had made the shots.
The incident site is located adjacent to a logging road in the heart of central Sarawak.
The soldier was shot around 3 am yesterday.
He was rushed to the Kapit Hospital by fellow soldiers but died in the Kapit Hospital at about 7 pm yesterday.
Mancha said the group of soldiers were in the vicinity for a ground training exercise.
Song district police chief Deputy Superintendent Rowney Michael said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"We are trying to track down the suspect.
"The autopsy on the victim will be carried out soon," he had said to Bernama.
The victim, Petrus Liman, aged 29, sustained shot wounds to the body, he said. - September 24, 2024
