THE Cabinet was informed that 662 children rescued from care homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) have been issued court orders placing them under the protection of the authorities.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was informed of the latest developments by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri during today's Cabinet meeting.

“The ministers were informed that authorities have obtained court orders to protect these children,” said Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister.

He said that the Cabinet did not discuss other matters related to GISB.

In early September, the police launched “Ops Global”, raiding charity homes across Peninsular Malaysia linked to GISB, following allegations of child exploitation and religious misconduct.

As of Sept 30, some 600 children have been rescued from care homes operated by GISB, with 80 investigation papers opened against the company.

Police said initial investigations suggested elements of child labour, abuse and neglect.- October 8, 2024
