TORRENTIAL rain lashed northern Sarawak causing flash floods in Miri last night.
It is a warning sign the full-scale landas season (monsoon) is arriving, said State Assemblyman for Piasau Datuk Sebastian Ting.
Ting, whose constituency was badly flooded during the late-night storm, told The Vibes the flood was widespread.
"I am contacting those agencies in charge of drainage and the local council to check on the severity of the flash floods.
"The rainy season is starting and the public must be cautious as the rain could be very heavy from now on," he said.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii also confirmed the floods were sudden and widespread.
The Vibes took to the flooded streets and found the city centre and surrounding housing estates hit by floods of up to a foot high.
There was traffic chaos as many cars were caught on roads that were inundated.
The Meteorological Department had recently warned that six states could feel the full force of the monsoon in December, January and February.
They are Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah. - November 26, 2024
