SARAWAK is drawing up a masterplan to manage its  autonomous control of health matters granted by the Federal Government under the Malaysia Agreement negotiations.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the masterplan will spell out what Sarawak needs to do to exercise this control over health and medical facilities in Sarawak.

"We are ready to take autonomous control over health matters but we need to have a master plan.

"What are the immediate things we need to do with regards to taking over the management and administration of all the health and medical facilities?

"How much funds will be needed for all these?

"These are the urgent matters we need to work out over the next one or two years.

"That is why we need a master plan soon," he said in Kuching.

Dr Sim said the autonomous control of policies and decision making on health matters requires Sarawak to be prepared for the huge tasks ahead.

Sarawak had since two years ago been asking for control of health and education.

On Jan 13, it was reported that talks between Sarawak and Putrajaya had begun.

The talks focused on how hospitals and clinics in this vast state are to be administered by Sarawak, the management of medical and health staffs and infrastructure developments of future health facilities. - December 30, 2024
