THE Opposition has urged the government to come clean on the alleged royal addendum order that could allow Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the rest of his prison term under house arrest.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the public has the right to know if there was an additional decree regarding the pardons issued by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

"All Malaysians must uphold and honour the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the royal institution as symbols of the nation's sovereignty, as outlined in the Federal Constitution.

“This is important as any act to disobey, hide, or deny a decree made by the monarch, including the alleged royal addendum, can be constituted as an act of insolence against the king and country,” he said in a statement.

The Bersatu deputy president said the voice of the people, who seek to know the existence and status of the addendum decree, is a right guaranteed under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution, and it cannot be obstructed by any party.

Earlier, Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh confirmed that he will be present at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya this Monday to show solidarity with Najib.

However, he said his presence at the rally will be in his personal capacity.

Umno had also announced that it would not proceed with the rally, following remarks from Istana Negara as well as advice from the inspector-general of police.

PAS secretary-general Datuk  Seri Takiyuddin Hassan had meanwhile said the solidarity rally will proceed as planned.

Application for permit denied

On the application for a permit for the rally, Putrajaya District Police Chief, Aidi Sham Mohamed said in a statement today, that police have rejected it after it was found to be incomplete.

He said the organisers submitted their application on December 31.

“After a review, the application was found to be incomplete, and the police have denied permission for the rally,” he said.

He added that security preparations are in place, with 456 police officers and personnel on standby. - January 4, 2025
