TWO housewives in Sandakan, aged 34 and 20, are being investigated for lodging a false police report claiming they were robbed at knifepoint by three suspects.

According to Sandakan police chief Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek, the women initially reported that the suspects stole two mobile phones and RM136 in cash during the alleged robbery.

“However, based on information and investigations, we found inconsistencies in their statements. Further checks revealed the robbery never happened,” he said in a statement.

Police discovered that the pair had pawned their phones to get cash for beauty products but concocted the robbery fearing their husbands would scold them.

Both women have since admitted to filing the false report and are now being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for giving false information to authorities.

If convicted, they face up to six months in jail, a fine of RM2,000, or both. - January 10, 2025
