HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has confirmed that his son is being investigated by police for criminal intimidation, reported The New Straits Times.
He said his son was not above the law and that he would leave the matter to the police to handle.
Earlier this week, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police had completed investigations into a criminal intimidation case involving the son of a federal minister.
At the time, the minister's identity had not been disclosed.
Razarudin said the investigation paper had been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on Monday for further instructions.
He said police would take action against anyone involved in an offence, even if it involves a minister or their family.
The investigation centres on an alleged threat made against a woman.
Razarudin said the initial investigation found that the minister's son was already married to the woman. Currently, the police are waiting for confirmation of the marriage certificate.
This came after claims that a minister's son had threatened a woman seeking accountability from him for her seven-week pregnancy went viral.
The alleged threat reportedly occurred during a discussion with the woman and other witnesses at a residence in Telok Air Tawar, Butterworth, Penang, on 24 December.
The incident is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
