A FELDA settler was killed in an attack by a man reportedly armed with an axe at Felda Lok Heng Selatan in Kota Tinggi at about 7.30pm yesterday.

The suspect was said to have gone on a rampage by the roadside near his home, leaving residents afraid to approach because he was allegedly wielding the weapon.

A source said the suspect fled on a motorcycle after attacking the victim.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman confirmed the incident when contacted.

He said police would issue an official statement soon as investigations continue.

Attacker Reportedly Stopped Psychiatric Medication Eight Years Ago

In a new development, the suspect was arrested over the fatal attack and is believed to have mental health problems, with his sister saying he stopped taking prescribed medication years ago.

She said her younger brother last received treatment and medication for his mental health condition about eight years ago. He had also been referred to the Pengasih association in Johor Bahru over drug-related problems.

“He often experienced hallucinations and once asked to be sent to a tahfiz school before he was referred to Hospital Tampoi,” she told reporters today.

She said hospital staff had attributed his hallucinations and mental health problems to substance use, and prescribed medication that he took for only two months before stopping.

Describing him as generally quiet and helpful, she said he earned money through odd jobs in the village and had lived alone in the family home since their parents died.

She said she learnt of the fatal incident after seeing residents gathering at the scene, adding that she believed her brother would remain in the FELDA area.

The suspect was subsequently arrested by police at a nearby plantation, she said. - October 27, 2026
