MALAYSIA'S dedication to assisting the Palestinian people, particularly through humanitarian aid, medical assistance, and the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by ongoing violence.
Malaysia and Egypt have voiced a unified stance against any attempts to forcibly relocate Palestinians from Gaza, underscoring that such actions would gravely jeopardise the prospects of establishing an independent Palestinian state.
This shared position was highlighted during a recent conversation between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Anwar, in his statement following the call, emphasised that Malaysia remains unwavering in its support for the Palestinian cause.
He reaffirmed Malaysia's dedication to assisting the Palestinian people, particularly through humanitarian aid, medical assistance, and the reconstruction of Gaza, which has been devastated by ongoing violence.
Anwar also praised Egypt's continued efforts in facilitating Malaysia’s humanitarian and medical aid to Palestinians.
He expressed his gratitude for the Egyptian government's pivotal role in supporting these efforts amid what he described as the "brutal genocide" perpetrated by the Israeli regime.
The two leaders also discussed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and explored collaborative efforts to aid the rebuilding of the war-torn region.
Anwar highlighted Malaysia's active involvement in international initiatives, notably the Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).
This joint initiative with Japan aims to support Gaza’s reconstruction, and both leaders expressed strong backing for the initiative.
Anwar stressed the importance of global solidarity to make the aid efforts more impactful and effective, particularly as the international community continues to respond to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
Beyond the discussion on Palestine, Anwar and El-Sisi took the opportunity to touch on the broader scope of bilateral relations between Malaysia and Egypt.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, education, culture, and economic development. This collaboration, they noted, is vital for fostering deeper ties and mutual growth between the two nations.
The meeting underscored the close partnership between Malaysia and Egypt in addressing regional and international issues of mutual concern, with a clear commitment to supporting the rights and welfare of the Palestinian people. – February 15, 2025
