THE government hopes the public will respect the legal process and refrain from disputing or debating the royal addendum regarding former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s pardon.
This follows Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s instructions on the royal addendum order, said government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil.
"Putrajaya is grateful for His Royal Highness' instruction to all parties to stop discussing the matter involving Najib as it is going through the legal process," he said.
Asked if action would be taken against those defying the instruction, Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister said the government believed the public would leave the matter to the courts.
In February 2024, the Federal Territories Pardons Board — chaired by Al-Sultan Abdullah — halved Najib’s sentence from his SRC International trial conviction to six years.
Najib subsequently claimed that Al-Sultan Abdullah had also issued a “royal addendum” for him to serve the remaining sentence under house arrest. – February 28, 2025
