KL Tower is in poor condition and requires maintenance and repairs before it is reopened to the public, said Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said the new date for KL Tower’s reopening will be announced soon after the repairs and maintenance works are carried out.

The communications minister said a team from his ministry and the public recently visited KL Tower and found that the building is in a bad state.

"Certain repairs must be carried out before the iconic skyscraper can be reopened to the public.

“Based on videos and pictures, a lot of equipment, the kitchen, and also the revolving restaurant are not in a good or comfortable condition for visitors," he said.

He pointed out that there were some railings at the upper decks that were lowered and this was worrying.

“For the safety of visitors, we are asking the new company (operating the tower) to carry out immediate maintenance and repairs,” he told a press conference.

Fahmi also defended the federal lands commissioner’s move to enforce an eviction on KL Tower’s former operator, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB).

"KL Tower is fully owned by the government, and the new concession management has taken over since April 1.

“The Federal Land Commissioner looked into this issue and based on Section 425 of the National Land Code, there is a basis and we have gone through the process to allow the federal land commissioner to enter the premises to allow the new company to operate there,” he said.

“Based on various reasons, some reported by the media and others unreported, there are grounds for the land commissioner to enforce the takeover

“We have gone through the process to facilitate the entry of the new concession,” added Fahmi.

He also reiterated that 193 out of 205 staff members of the former concessionaire has accepted an offer by the new concessionaire - LSH Service Masters Sdn Bhd (LSHMSM). - April 17, 2025
