BUKIT MERTAJAM – A 33-year-old man who rammed his truck into a policeman’s motorcycle before hitting a road divider at KM137 along the North South Expressway, has died.

The 20-year-old policeman, meanwhile, is reported to be in stable condition.

In the 3.15am incident today, it is believed the lorry rammed the motorcycle before skidding and hitting the road before being thrown into the underpass.

The truck driver, Muhammad Shafiq Abd Razak sustained serious head and abdominal injuries, died after being rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital. 

He was from Mengkuan, Semarak in Bukit Mertajam.

It is believed Muhammad Shafiq was transporting goods to the Shopee store at Pokok Sena near Kepala Batas.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Shafee Abd Samad said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Our preliminary investigations revealed that there were no close circuit cameras in the area and there were no eyewitnesses for the incident,” he said.

The policeman, identified as Roger Daniel James, was attached to the crime prevention patrol unit of the Dato Keramat police station in George Town. – The Vibes, December 22, 2020
