RTD: Licenses of commercial drivers involved in road accidents to be suspended
RTD has already implemented this action against five drivers - July 6, 2025

THE Road Transport Department (RTD) will suspend the vocational licences of commercial vehicle drivers involved in road accidents, pending police investigations.

Its Director-General, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said that the drastic action is among the improvements taken by his department to ensure drivers comply with set road regulations.

"Any holder of a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) or Goods Driving Licences (GDL) involved in an accident and is being investigated by the police will have their licence suspended.

"Furthermore, if the driver is found guilty or issued a notice under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), their licence may be revoked by the RTD in accordance with the provisions of Section 56 (4)(b).

"We have already implemented this action against five drivers, including a lorry driver who was involved in an accident with a FRU vehicle recently," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

He said this during a press conference after officiating the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Mylesen B2 Program Driving Licence Presentation Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Aedy Fadly said any driver whose vocational licence has been suspended will need to undergo and pass a refresher training programme before the licence can be reactivated or removed from the suspension list.

"This retraining program will be organised by RTD at a location to be determined later, but all drivers will also be charged a fee to cover the cost of the training program," he said.

He added that the contents of the retraining program will focus on driving competencies including road rules, aspects of safe driving, changing mindsets and operating vehicles safely.

He said details would be announced soon on the RTD official website.

He hoped that through this enforcement, commercial vehicle drivers, including buses, would always comply with road regulations and drive prudently, while prioritizing passenger safety. – July 6, 2025
