THE driver of a Proton X50 sports utility vehicle (SUV) that crashed into a restaurant on Jalan SS14/1 in Subang Jaya, yesterday, is believed to have accidentally pressed the gas pedal.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the police received a report on the accident at 6.20 pm.

“Initial investigations found that a man driving a Proton X50 was about to enter the parking area.

"However, he is said to have accidentally pressed the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to move forward and crash into the restaurant," he said in a statement today.

Wan Azlan said no injuries were reported in the incident which is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The driver involved had since come forward to give a statement.

He, however, asked witnesses who had information about the incident to contact the police. - July 7, 2025
