THE Ministry of Education (MOE) has handed over the investigation of a student who allegedly punched a teacher at a secondary school in Kajang, Selangor to the police.

Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said the ministry was aware of the incident that went viral on social media and respected the legal process being carried out by the authorities.

“At the MOE level there are regulations in place, but at the same time, when the police have taken over the case, we will leave it entirely to them,” she told reporters.

The case gained attention after a video went viral showing a Form Two student believed to be punching a male teacher.

It is understood that the incident occurred after the teacher involved allegedly tried to detain the student for skipping Physical Education class.

Fadhlina said that the ministry is still monitoring the development of the case, especially in terms of the welfare of the teacher who was the victim.

“We will focus, especially on counselling sessions for teachers as well because I think support for teachers is very important for their well-being,” she stressed.

Earlier, Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed the arrest of the student involved after he was believed to have punched and threatened his teacher.

The 29-year-old secondary school teacher lodged a report at about 7.15 pm yesterday, and the student was detained shortly afterwards in the Kajang area.

The student has been remanded for two days to assist in the investigation and will be charged at the Kajang Magistrate's Court under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt. – July 30, 2025
