NEWLY appointed Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said his focus was to maintain and even reduce the low crime rate of 30 per cent in the state.
He said one of his priorities was to tackle the growing number of scams which are causing great financial distress across the country.
"Penang is peaceful and I plan on keeping it that way. I also want to do my best to help reduce and eventually eradicate the growing number of online scams," he said.
Azizee, 59, takes over from acting state police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.
The ceremony at the Penang Police Senior Officers' Mess was witnessed by Bukit Aman Management Department director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid.
Azizee is originally from Pasir Mas, Kelantan joined the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on 1 December 1991.
Before being appointed to this position, he held the position of Deputy Director of Management (Administration), Bukit Aman Management Department since 22 July 2024.
Throughout his almost 32 years in the force, he has held various important positions including Deputy Director of Human Resource Policy, Deputy Director (Technical/Operations) of the Logistics and Technology Department, as well as Head of the Logistics and Technology Department at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters from 2007 to 2008.
Having a Master's and bachelor’s degree in construction management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Azizee is also active in corporate management as a Board Member of several subsidiaries of Koperasi PDRM Berhad.
He has also received various awards including the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) in 2023, Panglima Setia Pasukan Polis (PSPP) in 2019, and Pahlawan Pasukan Polis (PPP) in 2014, in addition to several outstanding service awards. - August 11, 2025
