THE mother of Reserve Officer Training Unit (Palapes) cadet, Syamsul Haris Shamsudin, 22, believes that her son did not die from a seizure as claimed by Palapes.
In view of this, reports said she is insisting a second post-mortem be conducted.
"I fully consent and personally request for a second post-mortem," said Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45.
She said an application had since been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) through the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) to enable a transparent investigation to be carried out without protecting any party.
She also urged that her family's lawyer, Datuk Naran Singh, be appointed to the committee set up to investigate the case.
She said she was confident that her son's death was not due to a seizure as reported because there were severe injuries and bleeding on the body.
"I request that a second post-mortem be carried out immediately and that a transparent investigation be carried out without protecting anyone," she said when met by the media at her residence in Semenyih, today.
Earlier, police confirmed that a Palapes UTM trainee had died while undergoing training at the Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada), on July 28.
"I am convinced there was foul play, that my son was beaten, assaulted and abused until he died. I have also received information implicating certain parties," claimed Ummu.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir had also assured that no party would be shielded from responsibility if wrongdoing was found in connection with Syamsul's death.
He added that the family's concerns over the circumstances of his death must be addressed without delay. - August 11, 2025
