THE inquest into the death of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir is scheduled for tomorrow at the Coroner’s Court in Kota Kinabalu.

According to reports, this was confirmed by the family's lawyer Hamid Ismail after he was notified by the authorities.

The Attorney General’s Chambers, on Aug 13, had announced its decision to hold the inquest reviewing the investigation report submitted by the police in connection with the incident.

The inquest will focus on establishing the cause and circumstances of Zara Qairina’s death, including whether any criminal elements were involved.

The AGC said the decision to proceed with an inquest was in line with subsection 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code [Act 593].

Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, on July 17.

She had been taken there after being found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar at about 4 am on July 16. – August 17, 2025
