THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (PPPR) proposed a comprehensive initiative to instil the values of integrity and accountability evolving from preschool through to primary and secondary levels - an initiative welcomed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE).
PPPR Chairperson, Datin Yasmin Ahmad Merican, stated that the proposal presented through this national-level anti-corruption awareness program, spearheaded by the independent consultative oversight body of MACC, is relatively simple to implement and will not place an additional burden on the current educational curriculum.
"The approach focuses more on cultivating values which transcend generational gaps and is aligned with ongoing initiatives aimed at raising similar awareness among schoolchildren and students by the MOE.
"We therefore seek the Ministry’s support in MACC’s mission to enhance national anti-corruption awareness. This can be done by integrating corruption prevention values into the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, such as the Karamah Insaniah and Generasi Madani concepts," she said while making the PPPR presentation to the Minister of Education.”
Education Minister Fadlina Sidek expressed that character building initiatives continue to be central within the education system.
“This proposal provides the much-needed clarity and a promising way forward to organically embed values-driven behaviours at schools and beyond.” she said.
“The programme introduced by PPPR is simple, timely and relevant. It can easily be integrated into the Ministry’s current efforts to promote moral education, including the Generasi Madani initiative, the National Education Development Plan, and the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS),” she said.
During the meeting, Director of MACC’s Community Education Division, Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail, also shared with the Minister of Education the book "The Price of Honesty", developed by research teams from Universiti Utara Malaysia and Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), intended as reading material for preschool children.
Also present were Director-General of Education Malaysia, Dr. Mohd Azam Ahmad; Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Development) of MOE, Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim; and PPPR members Prof. Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail, Prof. Dr. Sarjit Singh, Prof. Dr. Haidar Dziyauddin, Datuk Lee Heng Cheong and Kamaruddin Mape. – August 20, 2025
