THE body of a student who went missing after a paddy harvester he was riding in with three others plunged into a river has been recovered on the second day of search operations.
Muhammad Amsyar Muqri Masri, 18, a student at Politeknik Sultan Abdul Halim (Polimas), was found around 10am Sunday, roughly 10 metres from the site where the machine fell into the river at Kampung Sanglang, near Kubang Pasu in northern Kedah.
The operation resumed early this morning after a crane successfully lifted the submerged paddy harvester from the water late last night.
Jitra Fire and Rescue Station chief Noor Azhar Tajudin said the victim was located by members of the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from the Sungai Petani Fire Station, who conducted dives in the four-metre-deep river.
“We expanded the search area this morning to intensify efforts after the victim was reported missing yesterday,” he said at the scene.
The recovery operation involved 41 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), supported by four boats.
The body has since been handed over to the police following identification by the victim’s family.
Kubang Pasu district police chief, Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim, confirmed the discovery of the body.
The incident was first reported on Saturday, when a paddy harvester carrying four individuals veered into the river near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sanglang. Three of the occupants escaped unharmed, while Muhammad Amsyar was swept away. - Sept 7, 2025
