THE flood situation in Tanjung Malim has worsened significantly, with 397 residents from 91 families evacuated as of 8am on Tuesday, following days of relentless rain across the Muallim District.
According to the Muallim District Disaster Management Committee, Sungai Slim in Slim River has breached its danger level, recording a water level of 26.02 metres—well above the 25.4-metre danger threshold and far exceeding the normal reading of 23.5 metres.
Sinar Harian reported on Tuesday, the spike in water levels is attributed to continuous heavy rainfall since Sunday, which has led to strong currents and rising waters in several residential areas.
In response, four Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) have been established since Monday morning to accommodate affected residents.
The PPS at Kampung Sungai Sekiah Batu 7 Community Hall is currently sheltering 158 individuals from 40 families. Another 124 residents from 22 families have been relocated to the Kampung Pasir Community Hall, which began operating at 11.30am on Monday.
In Behrang Stesen, 55 residents from Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Lembing—comprising 13 families—have taken refuge at a nearby community centre since 1.30pm. Meanwhile, 60 individuals from 16 families in Kampung Pauh have been moved to the local hall following floodwaters reaching their homes late Monday evening.
Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, expressed concern for those affected and assured state government support in easing the burden on displaced families.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the volunteers and all agencies and departments who are working tirelessly in rescue efforts and assisting flood victims,” he said in a statement on Facebook after visiting affected areas and evacuation centres.
He also offered words of encouragement to those impacted by the disaster, urging them to remain resilient.
The Muallim District Disaster Management Committee has urged residents, particularly those in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant as the Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for continued heavy rainfall throughout the day.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to open additional evacuation centres if needed. - September 16, 2025
