PUBLIC interest in who PAS might put forward as its candidate for Prime Minister is on the rise, as many Malaysians are said to be losing confidence in the current government leadership, according to PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Speaking during the closing remarks of the party’s 71st Muktamar at Kompleks PAS Kedah, Tuan Ibrahim said the question is not mere political speculation, but reflects growing public expectation for PAS to lead the country.
“Many people are asking, who will be the next Prime Minister? Why are they so eager to know? Because they no longer trust the ministers currently in office,” he said.
He assured delegates that PAS is not lacking in credible leadership, and in fact possesses a strong and capable team ready to govern.
“As our Mursyidul Am said, how many lorries do we have filled with potential PMs? Four lorries, three lorries – we’re not short of leadership talent. God willing, we are ready to lead,” he quipped, underscoring the party’s internal strength.
Tuan Ibrahim also acknowledged the political risks that could come with revealing the party’s prime ministerial candidate, noting that such an announcement could attract attacks and pressure from various quarters.
However, he emphasised that PAS is not daunted by such challenges.
“Rest assured, this party was built on adversity. We have endured struggles with patience and strength. God willing, we are capable of leading the nation in the future,” he said.
The Deputy President also spoke about strengthening the party’s policy documents, such as the ‘Wawasan Induk Negara Sejahtera’ (WINS) and the ’Dokumen Hijau’, which he said provide a framework for Islamic-based governance solutions.
He ended his address by congratulating all candidates who contested party positions, calling them distinguished figures worthy of leadership.
“To those not elected, congratulations; and to those elected, my condolences,” he said humorously.
“All our candidates are outstanding. We have many prominent leaders within the party. I know how difficult it is for delegates to choose. Sometimes, when we look around, everyone seems suitable. If only the Central Committee could have more than 30 members,” he added. - September 16, 2025
