THERE are no records indicating a 39 per cent decline in tourism arrivals to Langkawi as alleged by certain quarters, said Lada.
As Langkawi is regarded as one of the preferred inbound tourism destinations, it is imperative to present the right perception of the island, said Lada's tourism manager Dr Azmil Munif Mohd Bukhari.
Azmil told a press conference that an earlier report claiming a decline in tourists to the island was inaccurate.
Instead, data will reveal that arrivals are on a positive trend, said Azmil.
"If we look at passenger arrivals at the Kuah ferry terminal, there is a 23 per cent increase in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year."
At the Tanjung Lembong port, there is a 27 per cent hike in automobile arrivals over the same period when compared to last year, said Azmil.
As for the Langkawi International Airport in Padang Matsirat, there is a 11 per cent increase with 31 flights daily compared to 27 flights last year - over the period of January until August.
Overall, Azmil said 2.018 million tourists arrivals were recorded over the first eight months of this year, compared to 1.96 million over the same period last year. – September 18, 2025
