A 73-YEAR-OLD man died following a fight with a fellow resident at an elderly care home in Sungai Pinang Kecil, Pangkor on Wednesday.

Manjung District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the incident was reported to police by a member of the public after two individuals were seen in an altercation at the home.

“The victim, aged 73, was found unconscious with head injuries and was confirmed dead at approximately 1.45 pm by medical personnel from Pangkor Health Clinic who arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh for a post-mortem examination.

Hasbullah added that acting on public tip-offs, police apprehended the suspect — also aged 73 — at around 2.30 pm on the same day in front of a restaurant in Sungai Pinang Kecil.

The suspect has been remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.

“The motive is still under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he added.

Police are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Investigating Officer Assistant Superintendent Sukjit Singh at 019-5505536, 05-688 6222 or via the police WhatsApp hotline at 017-682 8005.
