INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail expressed hope that Budget 2026 would provide increased support for the police force’s logistics and technological advancement, especially in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to keep pace with rapid technological changes.
“Our hope in the coming budget is that logistics facilities for the force will be enhanced,” he said. “With the dynamic changes in technology, particularly AI, it is important that we incorporate these tools into our tasks so that our responsibilities can be carried out more efficiently and effectively.”
Speaking after launching the MyPOLISPA personal accident takaful programme here today, Khalid stressed that the adoption of new technology must be implemented across all levels of the force, from officers and personnel to civilian staff, to ensure seamless coordination.
Earlier, he also attended the Police Administrative and Civil Service Staff Union of Malaysia conference, alongside Cuepacs president Datuk Adnan Mat and Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
On the enforcement front, Khalid praised the coordinated efforts to dismantle illegal jetties along the Kelantan border, a key move in combating smuggling activities.
“All actions are integrated across related agencies, and this cooperation will be further strengthened in tackling smuggling issues,” he said. “Currently, the enforcement carried out by the Royal Malaysia Police in Kelantan is very good and effective; many issues have been resolved.”
He added that he plans an official visit to Kelantan soon, including inspections of border areas.
Media reports state that out of 212 illegal jetties along the Sungai Golok from Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat to Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, 153 have been identified as built on government land and are slated for demolition.
So far, 54 demolition notices have been issued by the Land and District Offices in collaboration with the General Operations Force (PGA), National Security Council (MKN), and local councils.
Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid, Commander of the Southeast Brigade of the PGA, noted that the notices were posted about three weeks ago to alert local residents.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar hinted that Budget 2026 will bring “good news” for civil servants and the public, saying, “It will benefit civil servants and the people. This is a Madani government – one that is caring and attentive to the needs of the rakyat.”
The national budget is expected to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat next month. - September 19, 2025
