A 17-YEAR-OLD Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate has pleaded guilty to two charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at her home last month.

The accused appeared before Magistrate Dhilip Nair R.N. Atchuthan and a court interpreter at the Magistrate's Court in Batu Pahat today, where he admitted his guilt.

The alleged offences occurred at 3.30 pm on 22 August at the victim's home in Batu Pahat, Johor.

The prosecution, led by deputy public prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, charged the accused under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (AKKSTKK) 2017.

A conviction under this section carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping, although as a juvenile offender, he could face a good behaviour bond, a fine, or detention at Henry Gurney School.

The accused was represented by lawyer Tan Song Yan from the National Legal Aid Foundation. The court set 18 November for the moral report, facts, and orders and granted bail of RM1,500.

Reports indicate that a neighbour saw the accused entering the victim's home and alerted her mother. The victim later confirmed the incident during questioning, and her 10-year-old sibling also witnessed the accused in the room on the day of the incident. - September 19, 2025
