ACTIVIST Che Muna Din, better known as Mona Din, has issued a public apology to the Attorney General following a Facebook post made on 4 September that was deemed potentially contemptuous of court.
The apology came after she received a show-cause notice dated 10 September 2025 from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), relating to the post, which commented on the ongoing inquest into the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.
“I had no intention of questioning or interfering with the Coroner’s Court proceedings,” Mona stated in a post on her Facebook page on Friday.
“I also did not harbour any malicious intent to influence public opinion or the perception of the Coroner presiding over the inquest,” she added.
She pledged not to make any future postings that could be seen as disruptive to the judicial process or in contempt of court. Mona confirmed that the original post was removed on 13 September at approximately 6.18pm.
“I sincerely wish to apologise once again and extend my gratitude to the Attorney General for giving me the opportunity to resolve this issue through an apology,” she wrote.
The AGC had earlier confirmed that a show-cause notice was issued in accordance with Order 52 Rule 2B of the Rules of Court 2012, as part of due process for initiating committal proceedings for contempt of court.
“The issuance of this notice is a procedural requirement before any contempt proceedings may commence,” the AGC said in a statement.
It added that the post in question appeared to question the testimony of Dr Jessie Hiu, a forensic pathologist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, which could potentially influence public perception and disrupt the inquest proceedings.
The inquest into Zara Qairina’s death has drawn public attention and has seen several witnesses testify regarding the circumstances leading to the student’s demise. - September 20, 2025
