PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has vehemently condemned the interception of humanitarian vessels under the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens To Gaza (TMTG) by Israeli forces, saying the act is inhumane and infringes basic human rights and dignity.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he was informed that ships belonging to the FFC‑TMTG mission, carrying Malaysian participants, were “illegally intercepted in international waters by Zionist forces” at approximately 10.50 am Malaysian time.
“I condemn in the strongest terms this provocative act and violation of international law. The detention of humanitarian ships carrying aid to the people of Gaza is inhumane and breaches core principles of human rights and universal dignity,” he wrote.
He demanded the immediate release of all Malaysian activists and volunteers, with assurances they would be properly protected and not harmed during detention.
“The MADANI government will do everything possible to safeguard every Malaysian life involved in this humanitarian mission, and will liaise with friendly countries and international bodies to facilitate their swift release,” he added.
Earlier, MyCARE confirmed the flotilla had been intercepted some 120 nautical miles from Gaza. The coalition reportedly included nine humanitarian vessels approaching Gaza’s “red zone” when the Israeli Navy intervened.
One vessel was last located at coordinates 32°30.649′ N, 30°24.474′ E, travelling at about 4.32 knots. A press conference is scheduled at noon for further updates.
The flotilla departed Porto Otranto, Italy on 30 September with 150 participants from 25 countries, including nine Malaysians aboard Conscience and Umm Saad. The mission carried food, medicine and peace messages, calling for an open humanitarian corridor into Gaza.
Malaysian delegates include Prof Emeritus Dr Mohd Alauddin Mohd Ali, Dr Fauziah Hassan, Dr Hafiz Sulaiman, Dr Ili Syakira Mohd Suhaimi, journalist Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil, Prof Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh, Dr Noorhasyimah Ismail, and MyCARE trustee Norsham Abu Bakar. The *Conscience* vessel carried international crew, journalists, medical experts, activists and FFC steering committee members. - October 8, 2025
