MALAYSIAN humanitarian delegates detained by Israeli forces during the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza missions are expected to arrive at the Israeli port of Ashdod around midnight Malaysian time, following their interception in international waters.
Chief Executive Officer of Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE), Kamarul Zaman Shaharul Anwar, said the estimated arrival time is based on the current pace of the Israeli naval vessels escorting the flotilla.
“The speed of the ships has been deliberately reduced, likely to ensure that the Malaysian delegates reach the port at night,” he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
He added that communications with the group, which had already been limited, are expected to be disrupted for an extended period.
The development follows a strongly worded statement from Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which confirmed that nine Malaysians were aboard the flotilla at the time of the raid.
The government has demanded their “immediate and unconditional release”, condemning the Israeli action as a violation of international law.
“The safety and welfare of all Malaysians remain the Government’s highest priority,” the ministry said.
All Malaysian diplomatic missions in the region are on high alert, with coordinated efforts underway with regional authorities to secure the safe release of those detained.
The interception on 8 October has drawn sharp criticism from Putrajaya, which labelled it a “serious violation” of international maritime law, humanitarian law, and human rights law.
Malaysia reiterated its full solidarity with the Palestinian people and its ongoing commitment to supporting international efforts to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
