NATIONAL Statistics Day 2025 (HSN 2025) will be celebrated in Sungai Koyan, Kuala Lipis, Pahang from 17 to 19 October, highlighting the role of statistics as “the pulse of life” in national development and everyday decision-making.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the annual celebration, expected to attract over 5,000 participants, will be officiated by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and will feature a wide range of high-impact public programmes.
Activities will include a Community Statistical Literacy Session, Career Carnival, university-level debate on statistics, traditional games, health screenings and a public Islamic affairs forum.
“It is our hope that public awareness of the importance of statistics in everyday life continues to grow,” Mohd Uzir said in a statement ahead of the event. “At the same time, we hope to foster a sense of shared responsibility in supporting the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s (DOSM) various statistical research efforts.”
He added that HSN 2025 plays an important role in strengthening the National Statistical System, a key initiative to modernise statistical services and enhance institutional capacity nationwide.
Public participation in DOSM’s surveys and increasing engagement with its published data is, according to him, “very encouraging, both in terms of acceptance and practical application.”
Mohd Uzir said the event aims to deepen public understanding of how statistical data underpin policy planning, sectoral development, and national progress.
“Through this initiative, the public will better appreciate how statistics serve as a foundation for informed decision-making, policy planning, and national development assessment,” he said.
He also noted that the event aligns with the vision of Malaysia MADANI, by nurturing a culture of evidence-based governance and shared prosperity.
“This mission cannot succeed in isolation. It requires the participation of all segments of society,” he stressed.
What makes this year’s celebration particularly significant is its alignment with World Statistics Day, observed globally every five years on 20 October.
Malaysia’s recent achievement in topping the Open Data Inventory (ODIN) ranking – placing first among 197 countries for data readiness and accessibility – will also be celebrated during the event.
“This is an extraordinary milestone that the nation can be proud of,” said Mohd Uzir. “A strong country requires a strong statistical system. We are proud to say Malaysia is leading by example.” - October 14, 2025
