FORMER Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's recent public comments should be received with openness and maturity, rather than dismissed, said Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.
Speaking at the launch of the PETRA Sustainable Community Programme at PR1MA Residensi Port Dickson on Saturday, Akmal said Rafizi’s long-standing experience in public service and policymaking should not be underestimated.
“In my view, we need to remain open to any opinion or position expressed, regardless of who voices it. His experience and involvement in government administration cannot simply be brushed aside,” he said.
Yesterday, Rafizi, in a statement, reaffirmed his resolve to speak out on political and party-related issues, regardless of internal resistance.
“I just hope PKR and the current leadership will stop overreacting every time I share my views,” he said. “The decision has already been made by PKR, and many of the current leaders were complicit in that decision.
Akmal added that any critique raised by the former PKR deputy president should be used as an opportunity to reflect and improve governance.
“What’s more important is that we examine the substance of the issues raised. Such criticism can be taken positively, and used to prompt more proactive responses,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Rafizi’s remarks stem from a sincere desire to see meaningful progress in the country.
“This is a space for healthy process and engagement, and I believe his comments are ultimately constructive, aimed at supporting better national outcomes.”
When asked about Rafizi’s recent suggestion that he may not return to party leadership, the Johor Bahru MP acknowledged Rafizi’s well-known commitment to his principles.
“Everyone knows him as a principled individual. There’s no need for reactive responses. His message was clear, and his stance should be respected.”
In a separate matter, Akmal also announced that Sungai Lukut Kecil had been designated as the “adopted river” under the PETRA programme, with the PR1MA Residensi Port Dickson Residents’ Association taking on stewardship of the waterway.
He supported proposals to upgrade the river into a recreational zone, including jogging and cycling tracks, shelters, and landscaped infrastructure along a 500-metre stretch bordering the residential area. - October 18, 2025
