THE Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has proven its capability and efficiency in bringing Sabah to a proud level of achievement throughout its five years of governing the state.
Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor stressed that the implementation of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) policy was the main foundation for this success, which saw the state's revenue record the highest collection in history, in addition to rapid growth in the industrial, tourism and agricultural sectors.
"At the same time, various education and human capital development initiatives continue to be strengthened, while welfare assistance is expanded to ensure that the well-being of the people of Sabah is always maintained," he said when launching the GRS Election Machinery at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) today.
Hajiji, who is also the GRS chairman, said the state government is committed to addressing the people's basic issues such as water supply, roads and electricity.
He said that 18 water projects are being implemented throughout the state including the Tawau Water Dam Project, the Kogopon 2 Water Treatment Plant (LRA) in Papar, and the Sauk Kabang Surface Upgrading Project which is expected to be completed next year.
"The state government not only implements and maintains state roads, but also works closely with the federal government to ensure that the maintenance of federal roads and the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway are on schedule. Phase 1B of the project is currently being actively implemented under the administration of GRS," he said.
He said that in the energy sector, the state government has taken proactive steps by starting the Ulu Padas Hydro Dam Project in Tenom, while the funding for the Southern Link Project worth RM765 million announced by the Prime Minister will ensure the efficiency of the energy system on the East Coast of Sabah.
"The GRS government expresses its appreciation to the Prime Minister for his continued support for Sabah, including in the struggle to uphold the state's rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)," he said.
Hajiji also stressed Sabah's success in exploring the oil and gas sector through the Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) with Petronas which opened up greater space for Sabah to be directly involved in the industry chain.
He said that with the agreement, Sabah would no longer only depend on royalties and sales tax, but would also enjoy direct revenue, job opportunities and economic spillovers through the participation of local companies in the oil and gas industry.
He said that the opposition's claim that the GRS government had failed to govern the state was baseless and merely an attempt to mislead the people.
"Have we failed with the record and achievements we have achieved? Have we failed who have done our best for the people of Sabah?" he said.
According to Hajiji, among other major achievements is the success of the GRS government in handing over tens of thousands of acres of land grants to residents through the Sabah Native Land Survey Special Programme (Pantas) as well as gazetting dozens of villages as village reserves throughout the state. - October 19, 2025
