A FORMER Chinese vernacular journalist - Heng Lee Lee was elected the new Penang DAP Wanita head after the wing held its biennial party election on Saturday, while three elected representatives did not make it into the main state committee.
The Berapit assemblywoman takes over from state executive councillor Lim Siew Khim and she is the second woman leader from Bukit Mertajam to helm the wing.
Bukit Mertajam resident and DAP veteran Datuk Seri Chong Eng had held the position for decades before her retirement from politics after she was not fielded in the last state election here.
But three elected representatives did not make it into the top 15 with Lim only finishing 18 while Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid was in the 19th spot.
Veteran Penang DAP strongman Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh's daughter Phee Syn Tze , the Sungai Puyu assemblyperson finished 17th.
Only the top 15 were elected to the committee, and would decide among themselves, who should lead the wing.
Heng, who is a former personal officer to DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng when he served as the two-term Penang Chief Minister, has pledged to unite the wing and carry out the party's struggle effectively.
Lawyer Mangaleswary Kumarasamy was made the wing's deputy head, while Saw Bee Ling and Yap Kim Toon were made the new vice-chairpersons.
Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying finished number six.
She was appointed into the main committee together with Seri Delima assemblyperson Connie Tan Hooi Peng.
The state DAP will also allocate RM200,000 to the wing to carry out its activities and outreach.
The wing will also be registered under a special social security scheme for housewives, and it is applicable for all DAP Wanita members in the state.
The other members of the main committee are: Wong Oi Kharm (secretary), Fam Lee Chyons (assistant secretary); Heng Yeh Shiuan (treasurer), Yeoh Guat Poh (assistant treasurer); Loo Feui Fern (organisational secretary), Lee Hoay Ping (assistant organisational secretary), Chin Cheng Theng (publicity secretary) and Lim Kwee Chin (director of political education) while Josephine Tan is another committee member. - October 20, 2025.
