POLICE today stressed that any peaceful gathering near Ampang Park, Kuala Lumpur tomorrow is not allowed.
According to Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus, the move was taken as the proposed location is only 50 metres from the red zone of the ASEAN Summit delegation route.
“The proposal to hold a gathering at Ampang Park is inappropriate based on intelligence and analysis by PDRM together with other enforcement agencies. The area is not suitable.
“PDRM has held discussions with the organizers, they can gather in places other than Ampang Park, because Ampang Park is 50 metres from the red zone.
“That is, the area of active engagement along the protocol route of all ASEAN Summit delegations and the Ampang Park gathering is too close to the hotel occupied by the Summit delegation,” he explained.
Fadil stressed that discussions with the organizers were held yesterday, but they refused to move to another location as suggested by the police.
“Discussions have been held with the organisers to move to Dataran Merdeka or Padang Merbok or elsewhere, but it is understood that (the organisers) are still reluctant.
“I ask for the cooperation of the community, we will not allow any gathering at Ampang Park tomorrow morning or evening, we are stopping the public from participating in the gathering due to security issues.
“I understand the gathering and the right to speak, but the issue is of security and the country’s image as the ASEAN Chairmanship and also other public order concerns,” he explained.
Fadil said that if there are parties who are still stubborn, strict action will be taken according to the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“The initial proposal of 1,000 to 1,500 (participants) was to be held from 9 to 11.30 am, we have stressed that the area is unsuitable due to security issues.
“(If there is still a gathering) We will disperse and act according to the law,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters today. - October 25, 2025
