A MOTHER and her teenage son were killed while three others were injured in a three-vehicle collision at kilometre 65 of the Johor Bahru–Ayer Hitam road on Saturday evening.
Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident occurred at around 5.30pm and involved a Perodua Kancil, a factory van and a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive.
“Investigations found that the crash happened when the Perodua Kancil, driven by a 51-year-old local woman travelling with her two sons from Simpang Renggam towards Kampung Bukit Kenangan, stopped to turn right at a junction,” he said in a statement.
“At that moment, a Mazda factory van driven by a local man from the same direction lost control and rammed into the rear of the car. The impact caused the Perodua Kancil to veer into the opposite lane, where it was struck by an oncoming Toyota Hilux.”
Bahrin said the driver of the Perodua Kancil and her 15-year-old son, who was seated in the front passenger seat, suffered severe head and body injuries and died at the scene. The woman’s nine-year-old son sustained serious head and leg injuries.
The van driver suffered injuries to his face, chest and right leg, while the Toyota Hilux driver sustained minor injuries to his body and right arm.
“All injured victims were rushed by ambulance to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom (HEBHK) in Kluang for treatment,” Bahrin said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
