A PROTEST against the visit of U.S. President Donald Trump at Dataran Merdeka on Sunday, coinciding with the opening day of the 47th ASEAN Summit, proceeded peacefully under tight police supervision with no untoward incidents reported.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the gathering, which began around 9.30 a.m., drew about 100 participants and was conducted in an orderly manner.
“The peaceful assembly was well managed without any unwanted incidents thanks to the close monitoring by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). PDRM is satisfied with the discipline of the participants and the good cooperation shown by the organisers in ensuring full compliance with regulations and safety directives,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Fadil expressed appreciation to the organisers for effectively managing the crowd and ensuring that the demonstration remained lawful and peaceful.
“PDRM is committed to safeguarding public safety while facilitating any assembly held legally and peacefully,” he added.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Amanah International Bureau chairman Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad, and activist and ex-PKR vice-president Tian Chua.
The organisers had initially planned to hold the rally at Ampang Park on Jalan Ampang, but the venue was changed at the last minute to Dataran Merdeka following police advice for security reasons.
The protest coincided with President Trump’s arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 9.54 a.m. on Sunday, where he was received by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before attending the ASEAN Summit at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The summit, taking place from 26 to 28 October, brings together leaders from ASEAN member states and key dialogue partners for high-level discussions on regional cooperation and security. - October 26, 2025
