THE Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has taken 445 enforcement actions nationwide during the implementation of the 2025 Deepavali Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP), which ran from 16 to 22 October.
The ministry said the scheme, which coincided with Deepavali celebrations on 22 October, underscored the government’s ongoing commitment to control the prices of essential goods and protect consumers from unreasonable price hikes during festive periods.
Throughout the seven-day period, a total of 4,560 inspections were carried out on wholesale, manufacturing and retail premises nationwide.
Enforcement officers found 433 cases involving traders who failed to display the mandatory pink price tags, six cases of missing price tags, and six cases of goods sold above the maximum price.
The total value of seized items amounted to RM16,078.40, while compounds issued reached RM53,500.
KPDN Enforcement Director-General Datuk Azman Adam said most traders showed cooperation and complied with price control regulations during the scheme’s implementation.
“Based on monitoring and public feedback, the SHMMP Deepavali 2025 was carried out smoothly and effectively,” he said.
A total of nine controlled items with fixed maximum prices were gazetted under the scheme, which covered four days before Deepavali, one day during the festival, and two days after.
Datuk Azman expressed appreciation to industry players and traders for their cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the initiative. - October 27, 2025
