PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on ASEAN to continuously oversee United States President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza to ensure an inclusive and sustainable resolution for Palestine.
“First, Gaza — of course, we welcome United States President Donald Trump's comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It is an important and critical beginning to stop this madness, genocide and atrocities,” Anwar said at the 20th East Asia Summit.
“But we have urged that this must be continuously monitored so that there will be lasting peace — an inclusive, just and sustainable political solution for Palestine.”
Reports indicate that Hamas has accepted part of the 20-point peace plan, which includes the release of all Israeli captives within 72 hours of approval in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.
The plan also proposes a cessation of hostilities, the disarmament of all armed groups in Gaza, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces, with the territory to be managed by a technocratic authority.
Meanwhile, in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has highlighted ongoing obstacles to humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Despite operating under extremely challenging and high-risk conditions, around 12,000 local staff continue to provide essential services to affected Palestinians. Israel has restricted the entry of international staff and aid, citing alleged connections between some UNRWA personnel and Hamas.
Last week, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel must facilitate humanitarian assistance by the UN and its agencies, including UNRWA, dismissing Israel’s claims as unsubstantiated.
UNRWA emphasised that a ceasefire alone is insufficient, and urgent deliveries of food, hygiene kits, tents, and other basic supplies are essential to sustain the lives of over two million Gaza residents. - October 27, 2025
