POLICE have launched a murder investigation after the naked, bound body of a young woman was found in a patch of undergrowth near the Serdang KTM commuter station earlier this week.
The victim has since been identified as 24-year-old Sarah Suwathi, a Malaysian of mixed Chinese and Indian heritage, whose family had reported her missing on 24 October.
The family confirmed her identity after viewing the remains at hospital on Thursday and said funeral arrangements would take place on Friday.
Sarah’s disappearance had sparked a public appeal for information after her family circulated missing person notices describing her physical features — including her height and greyish-brown hair — which later matched details released by police.
The gruesome discovery was made around 3pm on Wednesday, when a passer-by spotted a decomposing body about 900 metres from the Serdang KTM station, along Jalan Anggerik near the Blue Water Estate residential area.
Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farid Afdzal said officers received a report at 3.45pm from a 39-year-old Malay man who had found the remains.
“Police immediately rushed to the scene to conduct investigations,” he said. “The deceased’s nationality was initially unknown. She was found naked, with both hands bound.”
Further examination revealed that the woman was about 144 centimetres tall, had shoulder-length greyish-brown hair, long fingernails, and was wearing silver earrings and a red-and-green woven bracelet. A tattoo was also visible on her right hand.
Mohamad Farid urged anyone with information about the case to come forward. “We appeal to members of the public who may have knowledge of this incident to contact the nearest police station or the Serdang District Police Headquarters at 03-8074 2222,” he said. - October 31, 2025
