A ROYAL Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today to a charge of receiving bribes in stages totaling RM93,800.

Accused Captain Mahazam Ali, 47, made the plea after hearing all eight charges read out before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

According to the charge, Mahazam is accused of receiving money ranging from RM10,000 to RM14,400 for each transaction, through several deposits made between October 2023 and April 2025 at a bank in Shah Alam.

The money was allegedly received from Chong Gui Lin, through an individual known as Siti Nor Badariah Marzuki for several transactions, when the accused held positions related to human resources and then electromagnetic communications at the Ministry of Defence.

All charges were brought under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment or a fine or both, upon conviction.
