MALAYSIA generated RM7.8 billion in green investments in 2024, a result of government-led initiatives including the International Green Tech and Eco-Product Exhibition and Conference (IGEM), the Green Technology Financing Scheme (GTFS), and the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA).

Acting Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday that this figure encompasses contributions from financing schemes, tax incentives, and IGEM activities.

"In 2024, the value of green investment generation is RM7.8 billion, covering contributions from GITA, GTFS, and IGEM. This includes investment commitments secured through the IGEM series since 2020, which have successfully generated over RM10 billion in potential green investments to date," he said.

Johari noted that the initiatives also created more than 2,000 jobs across green technology-related sectors in 2024. Cumulatively, ministry programmes have generated nearly 34,000 employment opportunities.

He emphasised that Malaysia must move beyond being merely a consumer of green technology to becoming a provider, through the implementation of the National Green Technology Strategic Plan 2024–2030.

"This effort is being driven through cross-ministry collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources, PERKESO and HRDCorp to ensure talent development meets the needs of the low-carbon industry," he said. - November 4, 2025
